What you see here is a work in progress. Every time I complete a linocut I want to do it again to make it 'better' or just different - a tweak here or there! Due to the nature of the linocut medium every original print is different, but that's what I like about them. These images are designed to be bold, colourful and visually striking in their simplicity. I have loved making them and hope you like them too! Head to the gallery to see different versions, colours and the process in action.
Aerial surfing is a serious part of modern surfing. With the likes of John John Florence making it a part of everyday life and veteran star Kelly Slater cracking out 540s, who knows where it will go next. Exciting times!
This print is an homage to Greg Noll. The charger of the 1950s and 60s and big wave pioneer, who was the first to surf 3rd reef Pipeline. Da Bull wore black and white striped boardshorts!
A cutback is a significant part of surfing know how and is fundamental to surfers remaining in the pocket. It is also a manoeuvre that earns surfers points in competition. It comes in many forms and looks stylish when done well.
A Duck Dive is a functional skill for surfers to get out the back. It is a carefully timed move that allows surfers to pass under an oncoming wave and therefore get out the back faster and without getting nailed. When filmed or photographed underwater it looks serenely beautiful. It is harder to do than it looks!
The Egg is now a staple Funboard that is widely used, especially by soul masters and the older surfer. The Donald Takayama model is a particular favourite.
Fins are an essential part of modern surfing, unless you are Derek Hinds. Surfers now choose between a thruster, quad, twin or single fin set up. George Greenough has had a significant impact on fin design.

Hanging Ten is a longboarding manoeuvre that sees the rider dangling all ten toes over the nose of their board. Not only does it look very stylish, it is a stalling move to keep the surfer in a high-line trim.

There are few elements of surfing that are more graceful than the cross-step in longboarding. The opening scene of Andrew Kidman's film Glass love featuring Daise Shayne captures this perfectly.
Mavericks is a big wave spot in the cold waters of Northern California. It lies in Half Moon bay and was surfed solo by Jeff Clarke for over a decade! When the surfing mainstream 'discovered' its existence it became a defining moment in big wave surfing outside of Hawaii.

Many surfers have multiple boards, which they ride in different conditions; this is called a quiver. Quivers vary depending on who you are, but generally they contain some short boards, a fish and maybe even a longboard or a big wave gun for real hellmen!
There have been lots of retro movements in surfing and people continue to throw back to the past of camper vans, longboards and soul arching in trim with all 10 over the nose!
There are few more satisfying things for a surfer than to shape your own board and then take it out for a ride. Years of expertise in design has led to some incredible surf craft and shapers are highly respected in the surfing community.
Tube riding is the ultimate goal for many surfers. The experience of being in the 'Green Room' or the 'Barrel' is a zen experience where time stands still.
No surfing alphabet would be complete without a reference to Uluwatu, the Indo classic immortalised in the Albe Falzon movie Morning of the Earth. This print incorporates Albe's iconic image of 15 year old Stephen Cooney and Rusty Miller walking out to surf Uluwatu for the first time. Thanks for permission Albe Falzon - what a legend.
The Vespa has long been an iconic vehicle amongst the European youth, but since someone figured out a way of strapping a board to the side it has become an excellent way to spin round the breaks of Bali and other spots in search of waves.

X is always a tricky one, but this one is in honour of my local surf shop. X Game is an established name in the surf community in Hong Kong and is the go-to place for surf supplies in Hong Kong! Respect!
The classic statement from Bruce Brown's cult classic The Endless Summer. So often you turn up to a break that was firing the day before and you get skunked with flat surf, but if you had been there yesterday it could just have been the best day of your life!
